MANGALDAN—Mayor Herminio Romero took steps to finally stop the illegal operations of the “carnival games” on Rizal Avenue after a businessman and his companion were gunned down in the premises on May 2 at 1:00 p.m.

Superintendent Roberto Vocal, town chief of police, said the mayor issued the order stopping the carnival games in front of the Visperas Poultry Supply, where Jose Moulic Jr., 47, and Wilson Abalon, 27, were killed.

Residents, however, complained that the ‘peryahan’ was allowed to continue operating on May 5, 3 days later and continues to operate at presstime.

The carnival games locally known as peryahan, usually set up during town fiestas, has been operating long after Mangaldan’s fiesta in March.

The two victims were playing a card game called “tong-its” when four unidentified men riding in tandem on separate motorcycles and wearing black jacket and protective helmets opened fire at them.

Moulic, son of retired Police Colonel Jose Moulic Sr., and Abalon were rushed to the Medical Centrum in Dagupan City but were pronounced dead on arrival by an attending physician.

Policemen who rushed to the crime scene recovered 11 empty shells and two deformed slugs of still unknown caliber and a 9 mm. pistol allegedly owned by Moulic.

Moulic suffered 17 gunshot wounds in different parts of his body while Abalon sustained nine gunshot wounds.

Despite the fact that the incident happened in broad daylight, no one was able to identify any of the suspects.—LM
