MARIA Georgina Perez-de Venecia, wife of former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., is definitely running in the 2010 election, but remains uncertain for what position.

De Venecia, fondly known as Manay Gina, said she is choosing between vying for a seat in the Senate or as congressional representative of the 4th District of Pangasinan, a position that will be vacated by her husband who is now on his last term.

Speaking to local reporters last week, Manay Gina said she is being convinced by local officials to go for the congressional position, but at the same time, former President Joseph Estrada has been bringing her along in his trips around the country to give her the needed exposure for a crack at the senate to represent the women’s sector.

De Venecia said she is elated about the warm reception she is receiving from people during the provincial trips with Estrada’s.

“Pinag aaralan po na-ming mag asawa kung saan best ako makapaglingkod sa ating bayan,” she said.

Nonetheless, De Venecia said her “love” for the people in the 4th district is deepest.

… siyempre po mas matimbang yun sa puso ko,” she said.

In 1992, De Venecia got involved in public service when she became the president and chairperson of the Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. During her first two terms in that position, she initiated the construction of several centers for abused women and children called ‘The Haven’ under the auspices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.#
