LINGAYEN–December 11 could soon become the official date for celebrating Pangasinan’s founding anniversary.

An ordinance, authored by 6th District Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. and 4th District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, has been proposed before the provincial board declaring December 11, 1411 as the official founding day of Pangasinan.

Once approved by the board, it will be submitted for approval by the National Historical Institute.

Bince and Rosario said it has been the long-time dream of Pangasinan leaders, historians, researchers, academicians, educators and other sectors of the province to determine the foundation day of Pangasinan .

Bince said the study group, composed of historians formed by Governor Amado Espino Jr. to research on the matter, determined that December 11, 1411 is the most plausible date for the province’s official establishment.

It was on that date when a number of prominent delegates and representatives from the Fang-Chia-Chi-Lan (now Pangasinan) were invited for the first time to China and feted to a state banquet.

The declaration of an official foundation day for Pangasinan will further enhance the cultural and historical enlightenment and social consciousness of our people, says the proposed ordinance.

If approved, Pangasinan will be celebrating its 600th founding anniversary in 2011.

The province currently celebrates November 13 as Pangasinan Day, the birthday of House Speaker Eugenio Perez, a Pangasinense, who became speaker when the first Congress of the Philippine convened.

The other major provincial celebrations are January 9, the anniversary of Lingayen Gulf Landings, and May 1, the Pista’y Dayat.#
