Council cites VM Fernandez for “a job well done”
MEMBERS of the Dagupan City Council, in a resolution authored by Councilor Farah Marie Decano, lauded Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez following the resounding success of the recently concluded Dagupan Bangus Festival 2009.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod unanimously passed Resolution No. 6368 on May 18 congratulating the Vice Mayor “for a job well done as executive committee chairman of the 2009 Dagupan Bangus Festival.”
The resolution states: “it is widely believed that this year’s Dagupan Bangus Festival celebration has far exceeded the success of the previous celebrations not only in terms of attendance but also from the viewpoint of participation by various sectors, such as from the national government, other local government units, non-governmental organizations, the business sector and civil society.”
Fernandez, in response, said, “I am very grateful to my colleagues in the Sangguniang Panlungsod for this recognition which inspires me to perform even better next year.”
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. has already appointed the vice mayor for a third term as festival chairman in 2010.
According to Councilor Danilo Torio, who acted as temporary presiding officer during the regular Monday session after VM Fernandez stepped down from the presiding officer’s rostrum out of delicadeza, “the Vice Mayor deserves such recognition because of her sterling leadership and impressive track record as chairman of the bangus fest for two consecutive years now.”
This year, approximately one million people crowded the entire stretch of the new 5-kilometer De Venecia Extension Highway during the Bangusan Street Party, the closing highlight of the festival on April 30.#
