R1MC’s expansion
THE surgical and OB sections of the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan will soon be expanded with the addition of 120 beds through a P40 million funding approved recently by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“We hope the funding shall be released soon so that more patients will be conveniently treated here,” Dr. Roland Mejia, RIMC hospital director, told The PUNCH, adding that the good news was relayed to him by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, a son of Dagupan.
Mejia said the area expansion and new beds are badly needed as patients usually outnumber the available facilities in the government-owned hospital, which is intended to serve not just Pangasinan but the entire Region 1.
The OB and surgical wards currently have a 110 bed-capacity while the average daily number of patients is 150.
Meanwhile, Mejia also said that a new CT scan machine worth P29.5 million from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office is expected to arrive soon.
Another P15-million initial funding is being used for the ongoing construction of a drug rehabilitation center in Barangay Binloc, which will also be managed by R1MC personnel.#
