LINGAYEN–Leading the Araw ng Kagitingan celebration in the province, Governor Amado Espino Jr. underscored the contributions of the country’s veterans and the importance of continually remembering their heroism.

“Only few today remember our war veterans and their sacrifices for the Filipinos,” Espino noted during the ceremony held at the Veterans” Memorial Park last Tuesday and urged today’s and future generation never to forget what they did for the country.

One of the war veterans in attendance, Marcelino dela Cruz, 86, and currently still serves as the district commander of 5th district and post commander of Urdaneta City, said he is overjoyed at the importance accorded them by the provincial government for the special program prepared to honor them.

“We are very happy for we are being remembered, idolized by the younger set of officers like the governor and if only this will be known to the younger generations, I hope they will also observe the tradition of honoring the World war II veterans,” Dela Cruz told The PUNCH.

He added that he felt rejuvenated, feeling 10 years younger because of the special recognition they received during the commemorative rites at the Veterans’ Memorial Park attended by local government officials, provincial employees, and representatives from non-government organizations. #
