LINGAYEN—This year’s Pista’y Dayat kicked off on April 25 with the holding of the Banca Parada, a fluvial parade.

Colorful and aesthetically designed bancas sailed early morning along the three major river systems of the province namely: Agno River, Pantal-Sinocalan River and Cayanga-Patalan River.

The various offices of the provincial government and commercial sponsors were represented in the parade.

Paterno Orduña, Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council executive officer and Banca Parada coordinator, said the event was aimed at highlighting the provincial government’s environmental awareness campaign.

The opening day also had the presentation of the Pakar’ Awards for the cleanest river and riverbank in the province, a program aimed at reviving preserving the rivers and coastline of the province.

An inter-agency search committee was formed last year led by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), to conduct a rigid on-site evaluation on all the river systems of the province.

The three best compositionswere awarded P5,000 for the champion, P3,000 for the 1st runner-up, and P2,000 for the 2nd runner-up.

Who will be the
next Limgas?

Meanwhile, fifteen of the province’s loveliest and most talented young ladies are vying for this year’s Limgas na Pangasinan crown.

The winner will be selected during the Pista’y Dayat celebration on May 1, 7 p.m. at the Capitol Plaza.

The Limgas Na Pangasinan, the biggest beauty pageant in the province launched last year, is an expansion of the former Limgas Na Dayat that was first introduced in the early 70s.
