‘Ligtas Lakbay’ campaign gets a boost
MANGALDAN–With more than 10,000 lives lost annually due to vehicular accidents, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Art Lomibao announced his plan to further strengthen the Department of Transportation and Communications’ (DOTC) Ligtas Lakbay program.
Speaking on the eve of the founding anniversary celebration of the LTO, Lomibao said it can be achieved with the implementation of a massive, year-long and nationwide campaign on Road Safety.
“Road safety is about reversing the trend of 10,000 lives per year due to road accidents. It is all about being patient and considerate to others while on the road. It is everyone’s responsibility and the rules apply to all – rich or poor, government or private sector. Simply put, Road safety is Pro-Life,” he said.
He said the top 10 causes of road accidents are: Driver’s error; Driving under the influence of liquor/prohibited drugs; Mechanical defect; Over-speeding; Using cellphone while driving; Road repair; Hit and run; Reckless overtaking; Bad turning; and, Overloading.–LM
