A former political opponent of Gov. Amado Espino Jr. heaped praises on him for the transformation of the provincial Capitol into a prime tourist destination.

Former Vice-Governor Oscar Lambino, who lost to Espino in the 2007 election and is now consultant to the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group, said the governor has been doing a good job for the province.

“We give credit where credit is due,” he told the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas Forum last week when asked of his assessment on the performance of the governor.

Lambino, however, declined to comment on other issues relating to the governor, especially about reported grievances of some mayors.

Meanwhile, Lambino said he is no longer considering running for the governorship in 2010 but instead is looking at returning as vice governor or running again as mayor of his hometown Malasiqui where he once served as mayor for three terms.

Lambino, provincial chair of the Lakas-CMD party, also said the local political party Biskeg na Pangasinan will realign political linkages, in the face of the opposition’s plan to field a complete line-up in Pangasinan and the planned merger of Lakas and the other administration party, Kampi.
