DAGUPAN Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, one of the most successful women entrepreneurs from Pangasinan, called on the young to have a dream and pursue this.

Speaking during the Recognition Day of the PH 722 Malued Baptist Student Center on Saturday, Fernandez said everyone should have a dream since “to dream does not cost anything”.

The vice mayor cited her own experience who, at age eight was merely helping her parents put merchandise displays in their own store, the City Grocery.

She said at that time, she dreamed to have a store of her own.

Three decades of hard work later, she established the CSI group of companies with a chain of supermarkets around northern Luzon and the CSI Stadia in Dagupan, among others.

Fernandez hailed the PH 722 Malued Baptist Center for picking out students, belonging to families with below P3,000 annual income enrolled in various schools in Dagupan, and taught leadership values.

The center paid recognition to 20 students from elementary to college who graduated from various institutions in Dagupan.—LM
