Ex-mayor, journalist Padua writes 30

ARTURO Padua, a former public official, journalist and patron of Philippine cinematic arts, passed away on March 26 at age 70 due to a lingering illness.

The provincial board passed last week a resolution condoling with the family of Padua, who served as a provincial board member from 1972 to 1984 after years as mayor of his hometown Sison.

Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. said Padua, with whom he worked in the board, was one of the most outstanding local executives in the country.

“His death is a great loss to the province of Pangasinan, the media and arts and the country as well,” Bince said.

After he left the political scene and the country, Padua became one of the prominent journalists in Filipino communities in the United States.

Padua was also Tourism Attaché for North America during then President Ferdinand Marcos’ administration.

He later became involved in cinematic arts, movies and culture that eventually led to his election as president of Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences for two terms.#
