Espino, Cruz praise Sec. Duque

GOVERNOR Amado Espino Jr. and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz may not see eye to eye on several issues, but they agree on one thing: the exemplary performance of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

“Sec. Duque is a model public servant that we in government should emulate,” Espino said in light of recent surveys listing Duque as among the best performing cabinet members, and the Department of Health as one of the least corrupt government agencies.

Cruz, an influential leader of the Catholic Church and one of the most vocal critics of the current administration, said Duque’s integrity and high performance could easily win him a seat in the senate during the 2010 election should he decide to run.

Duque, for his part, said he is thankful for the cooperation of local government officials and the public in the DOH’s programs.

Duque also lauded the agency’s workers for their efforts, saying “my staff has to follow my austere and Spartan policies which in the end have served them and the institution they work for well.”

“The hard work of our health workers is paying off and I wish to commend their relentless efforts and dedication to ease the health burden of our people,” he added.

The health secretary also pointed out that they have been actively attending to graft and corruption through a special department called the Integrity Development Committee.

The DOH used to rank among the most corrupt government agencies.

“We are now harvesting the fruits of our hard labor, but rest assured that we will continue to check potential flaws in our system,” Duque said.
