CIAC promotes Clark airport

A road show was held in Dagupan on Friday to promote the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Clark to international travelers from Northern Philippines.

Victor Jose Luciano, president and Chief Executive Officer of Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), which manages the DMIA, said the promotional tour is intended to familiarize people within northern Philippines, starting from Bulacan, to use the DMIA when traveling abroad.

The DMIA is located inside the former American-owned Clark Air Base in Pampanga.

The road show was attended by members of civic organizations, officials of big business firms, members of the media, and Mayor Reynaldo Velasco of Sta. Barbara, who is planning and lobbying for the construction of an airport in his town.

Luciano said the northern area, including northern Metro Manila, is a big catchment area comprising 33 million people who can reach DMIA faster than if they travel through EDSA going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila.

“A big savings in time and money could be realized if one exits through DMIA rather than thru NIA,” he said.

The DMIA, he added, is passenger friendly and the airport police, PNP and other personnel have a well-coordinated work.

Several budget airlines, both Filipino and foreign-owned, are operating flights between Clark and various destinations within Asia.

Luciano also noted that with the big influx of investors to Clark, the DMIA is no longer just a passenger airport but a maintenance facility for big aircrafts.
