Watch out for the videoke addicts!

IT is certainly nowhere near as dangerous as the shotguns given the barangays.

A videoke machine is, in fact, considered as a tool for uniting the community that is if everyone in the community will be tolerant of all would be Frank Sinatras, Martin Nieveras, Britney Spears, Regine Velasquez, etc.

After the successful hosting of the recently-concluded Ilocos Region Athletic Association Meet, Dagupan City Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. has decided to provide each barangay in the city a videoke machine to be installed inside bararangay halls used for residents’ entertainment.

The machines were initially installed in schools where participants in the recently-concluded athletic event were billeted for the latter’s entertainment and leisure.

Councilor Lino Fernandez, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, told The PUNCH that people in their communities are very happy and thankful for the donation.

“Music can unite people, it relaxes them, it keeps their bonding stronger,” he said.

The councilor, however, also cautioned the barangay leaders about possible abuse and misuse of the videoke machines and become a nuisance in a neighborhood. He suggested that appropriate guidelines be issued by each barangay for their use.

Not a few violent incidents have been reported in ‘sing-along’ bars as a result of taunting among groups, and neighbors have filed complaints against the loud videoke joints that play these through the night for drunk patrons.#
