Provincial government ready to create more jobs

STO. TOMAS–The provincial government said it is ready to comply with President Gloria Arroyo’s directive to help create additional jobs by setting aside 1.5 percent of their Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) fund for the hiring of new employees.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the provincial government would readily abide by the President’s instruction although he pointed out that “there are many other concerns that need also appropriations”.

The President, in an interview over a local radio station before the start of her weekly Cabinet Meeting held at the residence here of Undersecretary Antonio Villar, Jr. chief of the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group, said this emergency employment fund will help cushion the job losses caused by the current global financial crisis.

She said taxpayers deserve to get back their contributions through programs that will help them, especially the poor and the middle class.

Espino said his administration has already created additional employment through infrastructure and agricultural projects. #
