Lions’ medical mission treats 1,000 patients

SOME 1,000 indigent patients from different barangays of Dagupan benefited from the medical and dental mission conducted on Thursday by the Lions Club International in Barangay Bonuan Boquig.

The Health Focus Mission 2009 Project was conducted by the San Diego Scripps Lions Club District 301-D with the help of host Dagupan Guilon-Guilon Lions Club headed by Nenita Saingan, and in coordination with city and barangay officials.

Saingan said 800 reading eye glasses were also distributed to senior citizens.

The San Diego Scripp Lions Club delegation was headed by its president Tita Gamboa, a Fil-American.

Councilors Jesus Canto and Alfredo Quinto Sr. coordinated the activity while Bonuan Boquig Barangay Captain Alfredo Quinto Jr. provided the venue and inviting indigent beneficiaries from Bonuan Boquig and adjacent barangays.

Councilor Quinto, a former barangay captain of the village, said the medical mission was the biggest ever conducted there in decades.

Canto said the activity complemented the program on health of Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.

Doctors, nurses and dentists of the City Health Office led by Dr. Leonard Carbonell assisted in the mission.

Saingan said similar medical and dental mission were held in Manaoag and Laoac towns.–LM
