La Marean studes shine in Math battle

STUDENTS of La Marea Academy distinguished themselves in the 2008 MetroBank-MTAP DepEd Math Challenge Division Finals with its Grades I and Grade III groups grabbing first place while the Grades I and 5 groups placed second in their respective categories.

In November last year, other pupils of the school also won in the Division Mathematics Festival.

Mark Rhonel Palisoc and Gianne Matthew Mendoza bagged gold medals in their respective categories while Victoria Macaraeg and Kin An Janel took the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In the 2008 Australian Mathematics Competition sponsored by the Australian Mathematics Trust, five La Marean students received credit certificates and eight were given proficiency certificates.

In other events, Antonio Enrique Macaraeg was first runner-up in the 2009 Regional Science Quiz.

La Mareans were also part of the Philippine Team that won the gold in the 2nd World Taekwondo Culture and Expo in Korea.

Toni Encinares garnered two gold medals for sparring and poomse, Daniel Encinares earned a gold and bronze, Sabrina Rae Aquino bagged a gold and silver, while Jessica Tolin captured a silver and bronze.

This feat was duplicated in the First International Philippine Goodwill Karate in October where La Marea’s Ma. Raniella Isabel Gutierrez won the bronze in the 10-11 year old Girl’s Kumite category while Jeramiel Gutierrez won the bronze in the 8-9 Boy’s Kumite.—LM
