Farmers’ Expo opens in Sison

Local entrepreneurs in Pangasinan and neighboring provinces trooped to Sison town to participate in the Farmers Agricultural Exposition 2009 that opened March 24.

The week-long event is a partnership between ABONO Partylist chaired by Engr. Rosendo So and Governor Amado Espino Jr. and the Provincial Government of Pangasinan.

Sison Mayor Kimi Cojuangco has expressed the hope that instead of being just a week-long event, the Agri-Expo be a year-round showcase of the best product offerings from every town in Pangasinan, with participation from nearby Region I provinces of La Union and Benguet.

Among the farmer’s produce exhibited at the expo on opening day were bags and slippers made from corn husks from Sto. Tomas, banig, patis and bagoong from Lingayen, Mapandan: And what else but eggs from Mapandan, flowers and big Red Lady papayas from Sison, eggplants from Villasis, honeydew, knives and patupat from Pozorrubio, bangus, hito and tilapia from Binmaley, brooms from La Union.

Among those who graced the opening of the expo included Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Perez, Infanta Mayor Ruperto Martinez, Mapandan Mayor Freddie Calimlim, Manaoag Mayor Napoleon Sales, Balungao Mayor Jose Peralta Jr., San Fabian Mayor Mojamito Libunao Jr., Pozorrubio Mayor Emma Chan and Sta. Barbara Mayor Reynaldo Velasco and ABONO Partylist Congressman Robert “Eskimo” Estrella.

The expo also received support from the province’s representatives in the House, namely Arthur Celeste, Mark Cojuangco, Rachel Arenas, Jose De Venecia, Jr ., Victor Agbayani, and Conrado Estrella III.
