Dagupan joins ‘Earth Hour’
DAGUPAN is responding to the call for a better environment when it joins the world observance of ‘Earth Hour’ on Mar. 28.
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the city will switch off all lights in the city streets and in the city hall for one hour that day starting at 8:30 p.m. in solidarity with the rest of the world.
The move, said Fernandez, is meant to send the message that the city of Dagupan supports the campaign to save the world from the effects of global warming.
The city police have been alerted to deter criminals from taking advantage of the time when most of the city will be plunged into darkness.
The city government is calling on all households, business establishments, government and non-government organizations, and schools in Dagupan to join the city in observing ‘Earth Hour’ by also turning off their lights and air-conditioning during the designated hour.
‘Earth Hour’ is a worldwide call on all individuals, communities, business establishments and governments to act today to save the planet from wholesale destruction and reduce the impact of global warming.—LM
