Biskeg Pangasinan set to reorganize

STO. TOMAS–Biskeg Pangasinan, the only home-grown political party in the province accredited by the Commission on Elections, is set to reorganize next month in preparation for the 2010 local elections.

Undersecretary Antonio Villar, Jr., Biskeg founder and currently chief of the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG), said the party intends to field its own candidates or support candidates of allied parties.

Villar, however, said he himself no longer plans on running for any public office and will just remain as adviser to local leaders.

He said members who had “adopted a cold stance toward the party” will be “definitely out”, while those who have been “true to the tenets and objectives of the party” will be considered in the reorganization.

The party allows its members to align themselves with any national political party, enabling them to be identified as “Biskeg-Lakas”, “Biskeg-Kampi” or “Biskeg-NPC”, etc.

In the 2007 election, most of the Biskeg’s declared candidates won.

Villar said he is coordinating with Governor Amado Espino Jr., a Biskeg ranking member, on the planned reorganization.—LM
