Arellano Street undergoes upgrading

FLOOD-prone Arellano Street, particularly the stretch from A.B. Fernandez Avenue to the front of Nepo Mall, will undergo upgrading and half the road will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning March 29.

Private vehicles traveling west are being encouraged to take a detour towards the Jose R. de Venecia Expressway Extension.

Dagupan Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the project is a long term solution to the perennial flooding problem in the area.

The regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways formally informed the city government last week of the long-standing contract for the improvement and rehabilitation of Arellano Street, including its drainage systems.

Project engineers assured that two lanes for two-way traffic will remain open for the entire duration of the project.

Among those affected are shoppers of Nepo Mall, students of University of Pangasinan and Colegio de Dagupan, and patients and personnel of the Region 1 Medical Center.
