YMCA- Filipinas Wado Rayu showed a strong performance in its first competition for the year, scoring 14 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze medals to capture the overall championship in the “Mayor Pablo Ortega Karate Cup” held February 7 at the Pacoy Ortega Gymnasium in San Fernando City, La Union.

The Ortega Cup is an annual activity of the Philippine Karate-Do Federation and organized by the Shotokan Ryu Martial Arts and the local government of San Fernando City.

The event was participated in by the host Shotokan Ryu Martial Arts and the local government of San Fernando City, Baguio, San Juan, San Carlos City, Quezon City and Malabon.

Those who reaped major wins were John Enrico Vasquez, William Eden and Matthew Serafica Vasquez also won the gold in the KATA while Eden got the bronze.

Others were Elizabeth Eden, Koleen Juguilon, Fidel Salvador Reyes and Mark Andrew Manantan, Jayson Ramil Macaalay, Ranie Gutierrez, Jalil Magandia, Alexis Louise Nuñez;

John Matthew Manantan, Kaille Juguilon, Jaime Macatbag, Christian Decano amd Dane Curameng.
