LINGAYEN–”It’s just like hitting two birds with one stone.”

This was how SPO4 Rogelio Poyaoan, provincial executive senior police officer, described their “Lakad Pulot Basura Campaign” which is intended as part of the police force’s physical fitness program and community participation initiatives.

At least once a week, police officers from the provincial headquarters here take a stroll at the Lingayen beach to get some walking exercise and pick up trash along the way.

Poraoan said the project is also in support of the revived Save Lingayen Gulf (SLING) campaign of the provincial government.

SLING was initiated in 1995 by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. who was then the police director of Pangasinan.

The Lakad Pulot Basura was launched by Sr. Supt. Percival Barba, provincial police director, in October last year and a memo has been sent out to encourage other police stations around the province to do a similar program in their areas.—CSR
