Pangasinan prepares teachers guide book
LINGAYEN–Teachers in Pangasinan have been given new guidebooks covering different subjects as part of the provincial government’s program to improve education.
Considered as a first of its kind in the country, the guidebooks are a product of a one-year research and that involved 128 educators from the province’s two school divisions (Pangasinan I and Pangasinan II).
Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., who led the turning over ceremonies on Wednesday of 48,325 copies of the teacher guidebooks to the Department of Education (DepEd), said the books are aimed at improving education standards and churn out better quality students.
Espino, assisted by Vice Gov. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, handed the guidebooks to Dr. Alma Ruby Torio, schools division superintendent of Pangasinan I, and Atty. Armando Aquino, schools division superintendent of Pangasinan I.
The teaching manual was conceptualized by Aquino and was successfully piloted in 2006 in all the public schools of Pangasinan II.
Impressed by the success of the experiment, Espino ordered the adoption the manual province-wide and directed the school board to form a team of education specialists to work on the parameters of an expanded coverage of the guidebook.
The governor’s move was readily approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the provincial school board, and set aside a substantial fund to assure the completion of the project.
The governor stressed the importance of education by citing the youth as the community’s number one asset.
“Developing their intellect is the best way of molding the character of these children,” Espino said.
The governor assured that all public schools in the province, including the remotest barangays, “will be using the same textbooks and all public school students will be studying the same lessons in their respective schools every day.”—LM
