Mayors’ league hands off on Pulido’s suspension
PROCESS UPHELD
THE Pangasinan Mayors League (PML) is taking a hands-off stance on the one-month suspension ordered by the provincial board on one of its members, Mayor Nestor Pulido of Anda.
Mayor Mojamito Libunao of San Fabian, PML secretary-general, said the league, headed by Mayor Ramon Guico Jr. of Binalonan, has yet to meet about the matter.
“As a mayor, I can feel what he (Pulido) feels-I empathize with him. And as I heard, the decision was adverse, I sympathize with him. But I have respects for the proceedings that have taken place,” said Libunao, speaking during the “Kapehan sa Lennox Hotel” of the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club on Wednesday. Libunao, however, agreed to relay suggestions to the PML to look into the matter, but expressed caution that there are difficulties that may arise if the league attempts to duplicate the investigation.
He said the league has no power to subpoena witnesses and neither the authority to issue subpoena duces tecum to officials or offices to produce pertinent documents.
He added that the league has, in fact, no power at all to investigate, adding that it would be perhaps usurpation of authority on the part of the league if it does a parallel investigation.
“It will also create a lot of confusion on the minds of people if the league will conduct an investigation on the matter,” he said.
Libunao further said the best organization to conduct an investigation on the matter is the media by diligently covering the proceedings on the matter, taking into consideration the position of all parties involved.
Libunao bewailed the suggestion to bring Pulido and members of the provincial board who voted for his suspension in one forum to ventilate their respective issues as this would become uncontrolled.
At the same time, Libunao said Pulido should “continue and pursue his quest” if he believes that his intentions for public service, which was put into question in the case that led to his suspension, are sincere and pure.
At the same time, Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Rosario said he has high respects for Mayor Pulido and his wife, Board Member Alice Pulido, but he is maintaining his stand on the matter.
Rosario was one of the seven board members who voted for the suspension of Pulido. –LM
