A MEMBER of the Duque clan in Dagupan has donated 30 housing units at the Gawad Kalinga (GK)-Josefa Samson Bangusville in Bonuan Gueset in memory of her late husband.

The donation was made by Dr. Luz Duque-Hammershaimb, elder sister of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Lyceum Northwestern University president Gonzalo Duque.

She recently visited the GK site accompanied by her brother Gonzalo and former U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland Willy Hold whose wife, Eleonor, is the sister of late husband Edgar.

Of the initial 12 housing units pledged by Hammershaimb, 10 units are already under under construction.

The construction of the remaining 18 units will follow shortly, thereafter.

Speaking briefly in a program during their visit, Ambassador Hold lauded the Gawad Kalinga pro gram, which rests on the strong partnership among the public authorities, private owners, volunteers and the beneficiaries themselves.

He said in his own career as a diplomat, he has seen this project succeed in various countries and is happy to find it working as well for the Filipinos “who have so many talents and good qualities”.

“I’d like to thank the Dagupan authorities for their support and cooperation in developing and finishing the project,” he said referring to the donation made in the name of the late Edgar Hammershaimb, soon to be called Edgartown.

The visitors were met by city officials led by Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and City Administrator Alvin Fernandez.

Mayor Fernandez thanked Mrs. Hammershaimb for the donation that will provide shelter to homeless families in the city. –LM
