A 14-year-old lass from Dagupan was crowned Sudoku Grand Master of the Philippines in the 3rd Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge held at the SM North Edsa Annex mall on January 31.

Sarah Jane Cua, a sophomore student at the Pangasinan Universal Institute, was the youngest contestant in her division, the Sudoku Wizard for high school students.

In the final round of the competition, Cua finished the assigned number puzzle in 10 minutes, way ahead of the 30-minute allotted time and her opponents to take home P60,000 cash and other gifts.

Cua is also the reigning Asia-Pacific champion in the Brand’s First Asia-Pacific Sudoku Challenge held in Singapore in July last year.

Meanwhile, Cua’s younger brother, Mark Davidson, 10, placed third in the Sudoku Whiz Kid division for elementary students during the same event.

The winners in the competition will represent the country in the 4th World Sudoku Championship in Zilina, Slovakia in April this year.

The 3rd Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge was organized by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild-Philippines (MTG), a member of the World Puzzle Federation, together with SM Supermalls and BM.#
