Celeste eyes Alaminos mayor’s seat
LINGAYEN–First District Rep. Arthur Celeste, who is serving his last term in Congress, has set his sights on becoming the next mayor of Alaminos City.
Speaking to local newsmen after the State of the Province Address of Governor Amado Espino Jr. on Monday, Celeste said he is now “100 percent sure” of running against the incumbent, Mayor Hernani Braganza, in the 2010 elections.
Celeste also said his decision is “non-negotiable, no deal” even as he anticipates influential politicians to convince him otherwise.
Celeste, a native of Bolinao, said he has already laid out the requirements for his candidacy by transferring his registration as voter from his hometown to Alaminos three weeks ago.
Celeste recently built a house in Barangay Magsaysay, near Lucap, the gateway to the famous Hundred Islands.
He said Alaminos has been his official residence since September last year where he has been receiving constituents in the district four days a week while the remaining three days are spent in Congress.
Celeste said his not being a native of Alaminos cannot be an issue since Braganza himself and other former mayors also came from other towns
Celeste served for 13 years as barangay chairman and was an ex-officio board member being a former provincial federation president of the Liga ng mga Barangay.
Braganza, a nephew of former President Fidel Ramos, was press secretary and secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.#
