A SPECTACLE of colors and music formally launched the 2009 Pangasinan I Division Olympic Games.

Drum and Lyre Corps and hundreds of athletes from 22 towns in Pangasinan participated in a parade from the Capitol Plaza to the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center Grandstand last January 27.

The following day, the same riot of sights and sounds pervaded the sports complex of Tayug National High School to kick off the Pangasinan II Division Meet.

Board Member Von Mark Mendoza, speaking for the governor, said: “With a better equipped sports facility (the NRSSC), determined sports program in the province and with the best coaches and trainers, there is no reason why we can’t be number one in the region and in the country.”

“Sports bespeak of good health and good health spells good mind,” Dr. Alma Ruby C. Torio, Schools Division Superintendent, said in her welcome address.

“I have emotional feelings because we have the coming together of school officials and local officials who are our stakeholders. This afternoon, we are experiencing the spirit of oneness and unity,” she added. She was especially grateful to the local executives who are their partners in the implementation of school programs and projects.

In Tayug, Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas vowed that the provincial government will always be supportive of the programs and projects of the Department of Education, especially sports.
