VICE Mayor Belen Fernandez is eyeing a bigger and grander 2009 Dagupan Bangus Festival.

She bared her plan immediately after her appointment as overall chairman of the event by Mayor Alipio Fernandez, and in her subsequent meetings with members and leaders of various sectors she has tapped for the various activities she has lined up.

“I want to express my deepest appreciation to Mayor Fernandez for his renewed confidence in me to chair the coming Bangus Festival,” Fernandez said.

The members of the organizing committee include the Liga ng mga Barangay, the city engineer’s office, nutrition office, city health office, Public Order and Safety Office, Dagupan City Police Station, waste management division, Department of Education, PANDA and the Pangasinan Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

The vice mayor will be in Manila on the third week of February to meet potential festival sponsors.

Aside from promoting Dagupan as a prime tourist destination in Northern Luzon, the Bangus Festival also aims to further boost business opportunities in the city.

The festival, the vice mayor said, is also part of an aggressive promotion strategy for the Dagupan bangus (milkfish) in order to create bigger demand for the product both here and abroad.

She said she is confident that with the support of all, the coming Dagupan Bangus Festival will surpass last year’s successful celebration.—LM
