12 police stations get new cars

LINGAYEN—Twelve municipal police stations have received a new patrol car each for increased mobility and a better patrolling system.

The recipients of either a Toyota Hi-Lux or Toyota Innova unit are the police stations in Natividad, Mabini, Sta. Maria, Urbiztondo, Tayug, Burgos, Sta. Barbara, Rosales, Manaoag, Anda, Infanta and Dasol.

In a simple turn- over ceremony Monday at the police provincial headquarters here attended by local police and government officials, Governor Amado Espino Jr. lauded the Philippine National Police for funding the purchase of the new vehicles as well as the local government units’ continued support to the provincial government’s peace and order efforts.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Percival Barba, police provincial director, said the new patrol cars demonstrate that the ongoing transformation in the PNP cuts across all levels of the organization.

“This (transformation) must be felt down to the lowest echelon of the PNP organization,” he said.

Barba also acknowledged the support of the various local government units in the province which contributed a total of P15.7 million in 2008 for the construction of police stations and for the purchase of computer sets, patrol cars and gasoline supply.

The provincial government is scheduled to distribute in June two-way hand held radio systems in all the 1,333 barangays for better communication in the daily patrols and during emergency situations.

Espino also said that he is looking into funding options for the 14 police stations in the province that still do not have their own office.

“We are trying to do something about this. Remember that your local government officials are always willing to help the police force,” he said referring to the commitment of municipal officials to donate the land for the police station.

Barba, for his part, said, “Your continued support will result in better police service and lesser crime incidents.”#
