Team Pangasinan shines in RP Olympic Festival

TEAM Pangasinan, composed of eight Filipinas Wado Ryu Karate players based at the YMCA-Dagupan City, brought home one gold, four silver and three bronze medals from the national championships of the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival held December 12 to 15 in Cagayan De Oro City.

Fidel Salvador Reyes won a gold in 16 to 17 minus 55 kgs. Boy’s Kumite.

Other winners were Jayson Ramil Macaalay, two silver, 16 to 25 Men’s kata and 16 to 17 Plus 55 kg. boy’s kumite; John Enrico Vasquez, one silver, 6-7 years old boy’s kata; Zhargiemaye Kaille Juguillon, one silver, 8-9 years old girl’s kumite; Matthew Serafica, bronze, 6-7 years old boy’s kumite; Raniela Isabel Gutierrez, bronze, 8-9 girls kata; and Jeramiel Gutierrez, bronze, 8-9 boy’s kumite.

Earlier, the team won six gold, five silver, and 10 bronze medals in the Central North Luzon/Cordillera championship stage where 14 members of the Filipinas Wado Ryu qualified to play in the National Olympic Festival.

The team“s bid to the national championships pushed through with the last-minute help from the Kiwanis Club of Princess Urduja, Kiwanis Club of Aliguas Pangasinan, Gov. Amado Espino Jr., Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez and Councilor Farah Decano.

Meanwhile, Macaalay also won two gold medals in the kata and minus 65 kg. kumite in the Regional PRISAA held at SLU, San Fernando City, La Union.#
