Rescued owls named after police saviors
STA. BARBARA-Three police officers rescued three owls from the wild here on January 2 and have turned the birds over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
In recognition of the officers’ concern for the environment, the owls were named after them as part of the Pulis Makakalikasan program.
P/Inspector Isaias Dominguez, the town deputy police chief, Police Officers 1 Jonathan Gabis, operations police non-commissioned officer; and Christopher Idos, intelligence officer, were conducting routine patrol when they spotted the owls in Sitio Calay, Barangay Tuliao.
“I am happy I have a namesake which is an owl to show to the people that policemen are not only after the criminals but are also environment lovers,” Gabis told The PUNCH.
The three officers, while conducting their police visibility patrol, were approached by a caretaker of a mango plantation to report presence of suspicious people in the area.
No suspects were seen but the policemen instead spotted the owls.#
