No noon breaks at City Health Office
TO serve the public’s health needs better, the City Health Office in Dagupan is no longer taking a noon break between 12 to 1 p.m.
The new policy, which started Monday, is aimed at addressing the constant long queue of patients at the main health office in Herrero-Perez.
Dr. Leonard Carbonnel, the city’s health officer, explained that all physicians and other health personnel now take turns in manning the receiving windows and other frontline services to ensure that the office can attend to patients even during lunch break.
A revised work schedule for all personnel has been put in place so that the extended services rendered during break times do not involve overtime compensation.
The new policy is expected to further cut the service time for patients, mostly women, children and senior citizens, from several hours to a few minutes, Carbonnel said.
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the new policy is part of his administration’s continuing goal to offer uninterrupted and more focused medical consultation services to respond to the needs of the patients every day, including Saturdays.
Last year, Dagupan opened its doors of its local health office for the first time during weekends to accommodate the growing number of patients who’ve formed beelines to avail of various medical services, most of which have now likewise been accredited by PhilHealth.
Meanwhile, the City Health Office has also cautioned all residents to observe safety measures to fight ailments induced by the prevailing cold weather.
Carbonnel said the biting cold winds mostly affect the elderly, especially those with heart and respiratory ailments and other chronic conditions.
He advised senior citizens to wear warm clothing, to eat food with high calorie content like soup, rice viands and noodles, and to exercise regularly to improve blood circulation and resist the effects of the chill.
Carbonnel advised people suffering from colds and flu to wear face masks and when visiting the sick.#
