Optimism remains high for the unemployed as new overseas employment markets continue to open their doors for Dagupeños in 2009.

In the first week of January alone, top agencies and employers have already forged a partnership with the local government to locate qualified individuals to fill at least 400 positions.

“Despite the uncertainties felt around the globe, we are confident employment opportunities will inevitably find its way to the hardworking, the determined and the dedicated,” Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said.

Based on records of the city employment services office (CESO), more domestic and foreign employers are scouting for potential workers in Dagupan.

“We have not hit bottom as some may think. Demands for many workers, in fact, are spilling,” said local employment service head Melita Malong.

She said employers are looking for physical therapists, engineers, nurses, human resource coordinators, computer operators, secretaries, waiters/waitresses, technicians, factory workers and construction workers for overseas employment.

Every month, at least eight companies pool together to offer employment in special job fairs in the city, she added.

Mayor Fernandez said the city government will continue to forge ties with potential employers and ensure that city programs will be focused on upgrading the vocational skills of Dagupeños to match job requirements overseas.
