DOLE gives livelihood grants to 6 towns

MALASIQUI–Six towns in Pangasinan received livelihood assistance grants from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to boost entrepreneurship and employment among idle rural folk.

DOLE District Officer Adonis Peralta said the funds were coursed through different community-based associations in Malasiqui, Alcala, Bani, Binmaley, San Manuel and Laoac, under the supervision of municipal governments.

Peralta handed a P449,944 check on Tuesday to the town of Malasiqui for the Kababaehan Kabalikat sa Kaularan (KKK) headed by Ma. Asunta Domantay, wife of Mayor Armando Domantay of Malasiqui.

The amount will finance the garments project of the KKK, which has 5,000 members in 65barangays. The association will produce pillow cases and curtains for sale in the local and export market.

“If the project is successful, the association is set to receive additional grants from DOLE,” the mayor said.

The other projects that received financial grants were vulcanizing cum welding project in Alcala, P1.2 million ; modern agriculture project in Bani, P700,000; manufacture off arm implements in San Manuel, P100,000; oyster culture and gill net ma-king projects in Binmaley, P100,000 each; and vegetable gardening in San Manuel, P75,000.

Peralta said the financial grants are given by DOLE to different community associations to support their respective livelihood projects that promote employment and economic opportunities in the countryside.-LM
