PRISAA regional games start in La Union

ATHLETES and coaches from four provinces and eight cities in the region trooped to San Fernando LU on November 28 for the 19th regional games of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA).

Participants from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan and the cities of Vigan, Candon, Laoag, San Fernando, Dagupan Alaminos, Urdaneta and San Carlos arrived for the four-day sporting event to compete for more than 200 gold, silver and bronze medals in 14 team sports, individual events and cultural contests.

Atty. Gonzalo Duque, co-chairman of the PRISAA national board of trustees and PRISAA Region 1 president, led the ceremonies and declared the meet open.

San Fernando City Vice Mayor Pancracio Nisce was the guest of honor and speaker while Evelyn Pascua, Region 1 director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) delivered the inspirational message.

Duque and Pascua presented the Outstanding Awards of Achievement to the different PRISAA member institutions in recognition of their active participation, outstanding achievements and performance of their athletes, coaches and officials in PRISAA division and regional meets as well as in national games.

The host of this year’s meet is the PRISAA’s La Union Division-Chapter headed by Dr. Jose Mainggang.

Pangasinan 1 Division Chapter will host next year’s regional meet to be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen.

The games include basketball and sepak takraw for men only; softball for women only; volleyball, athletics, badminton, chess, dance sports, karatedo, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, solo singing contest, all for men and women.

A Mutya ng PRISAA will also be crowned.

The first place winners in this regional meet will represent Region 1 in the PRISAA National Games scheduled on April 19-25 in Naga City, according to Phil Celi, executive director of PRISAA Region I.—JAGJr.
