LINGAYEN—The National Food Authority (NFA) office here is optimistic that it will exceed its palay procurement target this year.

Ramon Cuaresma, NFA officer-in-charge, told The PUNCH that as of Wednesday, NFA has already purchased 470,000 bags of palay, representing 95 percent of 495,000 bags target for 2008.

Cuaresma said NFA’s offices will remain open during the holidays except Christmas and New Year’s day to accommodate sellers.

He said milling operations will start next month to ensure timely distribution, especially during the period June to September which are considered lean months.

The current NFA rice supply in western Pangasinan of 591,000 bags is enough to last for the next 205 days, he added.#
