UNITED States Coast Guard Auxiliarist Felix B. Lopez, division chief for Asia and Pacific, International Affairs Directorate, has been honored with the Auxiliary Diversity Award by the USCG for exemplary performance.

A native of Dagupan City, Lopez is the First Filipino-American to receive the award and the only Filipino-American in the USCG AUX national staff.

He was awarded for his consistent “outstanding performance in leadership, personal and work ethic, displayed superb initiative, commitment, motivation, support and involvement in ensuring diversity in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.”

Lopez’s position carries the equivalent rank of a Navy Commander.

The award was given during the 2008 USCG Auxiliary National Conference last August 21-24.

Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Eduardo Alvarez, national commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, also bestowed on Lopez the honorary rank of captain or full colonel in recognition of his active assistance on the various activities of the PCGA – one of the only three USCG AUX officers awarded such distinction by the PCGA.—Jun Velasco
