LINGAYEN—Ilocos Norte remained unbeatable and retained its crown as the champion in the recently concluded Ilocos Region Athletic Association (IRAA) meet both in the elementary and secondary levels.

Pangasinan II and La Union were good for first runner-up and second runner-up spots.

Ilocos Norte, which has held the top spot for the last nine years, dominated baseball, football, softball, volleyball, chess, archery, tennis, gymnastics and swimming.

On the first day of the competition, Ilocos Norte immediately re-asserted its prowess by grabbing two gold medals in athletics followed by nine more gold medals from different ballgames.

Pangasinan II, on the other hand, gave its best shot on the second day and actually came home after the games closed with 20 gold medals, just one shy of Ilocos Norte’s 21.

Boxing aficionados saw some spectacular action from Pangasinan athletes after dominating the ring and finished off with a resounding victory for Pangasinan II and Pangasinan I as they grabbed the first and third spots respectively.

The best athletes from Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan I and II and La Union will be selected to represent Region I in the coming Palarong Pambansa on April at Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. #
