YMCA-Dagupan scores 3 gold

OKAZAKI KARATE CUP

TEAM YMCA–Dagupan scored three gold, two silver, and four bronze medals in the Okazaki Karate Cup held February 17 at the Emilio Aguinaldo College in Manila.

Okazaki Cup is named after Shihan Teruyuki Okazaki, founding Chief of ISKF who was also the guest of honor and speaker during the championships.

Rookies Raniella Isabel Gutierrez (La Mareae Academy) won the Gold in the 8 to 9 Girls Kumite, and snatched the silver in Kata; Maria Fae Angel de Asis, a dean’s lister at the College of Nursing in Saint Louis University, won the Gold in the 18 above Girls intermediate Kata, and BJ Mangsat  (Mother Goose Special Science) won gold in 15 to 17 Intermediate Boy’s Kata.

 Jayson Ramil Macaalay (LNU-Special Science) won the bronze in the 16 to 17 Boys Kata, and Matthew Serafica (St. Robert Bellarmine) won bronze in the 7 years old Boys Kumite.

 Dr. Enrico G. Vasquez, YMCA-Dagupan City head coach, said the team is peaking in time for the Philippine Olympic Festival, Regional Elimination for North Central Luzon/Cordillera area scheduled on April 2 to 6 in Subic.

The Okazaki Karate Cup was sanctioned by the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) and Philippine Karate-Do Federation (PKF) and organized by Karate Development Arts and Sports (KDA).
