Flores wins UPang bike race

SECOND place is just not good enough.

Mangaldan cyclist Ariel Flores, who placed second at the Tour de Calatagan in Batangas province two weeks ago, gave it all to win the top spot in the University of Pangasinan (UPang) Foundation Day Cycling Classic last Sunday.

At 23 and at the peak of his career, he showed his mettle that he is the best rider today among fellow amateur riders.

Flores, who did not let anyone run away from the main pack from the moment the 63 contestants were flagged off at the UPang compound, suddenly spurted away at the half way mark of the 140-kilometer flat trek from the main bunch.

Only two, Rex Carino and Ryan Cantor, were able to stick with him most of the way.

The trio rode together, alternately paced the lead and successfully increased their gap against the relentless pursuit of  the three-man second  group.–JAG, Jr.
