Dagupan City Administrator Alvin Fernandez topped the professional level examination given by the Civil Service Commission last July 22, 2007 in Pangasinan.

Fernandez’ grade of 87.57 was the third highest for the whole of Ilocos region.

Fernandez, former vice mayor of Dagupan, said he and his family were even happier when it was announced that he placed third among all examinees in the whole of Ilocos region.

Fernandez, son of incumbent Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., said he took the examination since he is still unqualified to be conferred  civil service eligibility even after being vice mayor of Dagupan for six years.

Barangay chairmen, councilmen and Sangguniang Kabataan chairmen are given normally corresponding civil service eligibility after leaving the service.

He said that with his civil service eligibility, he can now plot a long term career in the government outside of politics.

Fernandez, appointed city administrator by his father when the latter became new city mayor on July 1, has a pending appointment as agricultural attache’ of the Philippines to Los Angeles, California.

With his new eligibility, he will stay on as city administrator in the meantime but he expressed a desire to take a higher level of examination if required of his present position.—LM
