LINGAYEN—A total of 4,823 athletes are seeing action in the 10th Milo Little Olympics which opened September 21 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.

Gov. Amado Espino Jr., who welcomed the participants from Regions 1, 2, 3 and the Cordillera Administrative Region, said the Milo games, considered one of the biggest sports events being regularly held here, will be a fitting prelude to the Palarong Pambansa set to take place in Pangasinan in 2009.

“The provincial government has made it a top priority to pursue programs aimed at promoting the welfare of the young through sports and in providing an ideal venue where they can develop top-caliber prowess and ability in various sports events,” Espino said.

Games in various sporting events like athletics, badminton, chess, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball started on the opening day and will resume on September 29 and 30.

The awarding ceremony for the games will be held on October 11, 2007 at the Leisure Coast in Dagupan City, said Tess Bernardino, Milo Sports organizer.

Last year, the Baguio City National High School dominated the medal tally standings.
