ALAMINOS CITY – “Hot meats” have no place here.

This is the iron-clad guarantee of the city government even as it warned unscrupulous traders of “hot meat” that their products will never be sold in the city as evidenced by the recent confiscation of 1,355 kilos of undocumented chicken meat by the public order and safety office and meat inspectors of the city veterinary office.

Seized before these could be unloaded were chicken and chicken by-products that allegedly came from Subic bound for Marilao.

According to Mayor Hernani Braganza in an interview with The PUNCH, this is the 10th instance of confiscation done by the city government affirming its policy to that only high quality meat can be sold the city’s slaughterhouse now classified as class “AA”, symbol for Good Management Practice certified by the National Meat Inspection Commission.

The seized “hot meat” and the unaccredited van used for its transport was reportedly owned by a certain Eugene Policarpio of Castillejos, Zambales. After losing his cargo, Policarpio was penalized with P1, 000 fine and his delivery van was impounded at the POSO compound for violating City Ordinance No. 2003-31 better known as the “Anti-Hot Meat Ordinance 2003 of Alaminos City”.

Dr. Ronald Abarra, City Veterinarian, said it was so far the biggest seizure of hot meat in the city this year since checkpoints were established in 2005 in four major exit and entry points in the city.

He added even meat slaughtered in single “A” slaughterhouse cannot be traded here because they are maintaining a double A or triple A standard.

Braganza lauded the efforts of the inspection team for its vigilance in manning the established checkpoints to stop and prevent delivery of hot meat and other smuggled items into and from the city. – EVA
