Province to open crisis intervention center

The Pangasinan provincial government is set to open its first-ever Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) to serve the needs of individuals and families experiencing domestic problems.

Gov. Victor Agbayani proposed the establishment of the CIC as he noted the growingnumber of families having difficulties coping  with their relationships and livelihood brought about by various factors.

“We  need  to help  these persons as part of our responsibilities,” he said.

Emilio Samson Jr., provincial social welfare development officer, said the CIS will be a special unit operating on a 24-hour basis to provide  integrated  services such as immediate rescue and protection, provision ofdirect financial and material assistance, augmentation during disaster and referrals and referrals for immediate medical, legal psychosocial services, including temporary shelter to clients and 24-hour hotline (telephone) service which includes but is not limited to giving information and counseling..

“From time to time, some housewives or even single mothers come to our office to seek help. There are those who need counseling and rehabilitation. Thus the concept of the crisis intervention center cropped,” Samson said.

He thanked Gov. Agbayani who immediately agreed to the proposal to put up the crisis center  which is now almost complete. Target clientele of the CIC includes victims of physical abuse psychological abuse, economic abuse, disasters and other tragedies.
