MANGALDAN–Mangaldan – Mayor Herminio Romero vehemently denied that jueteng is operating in his town, much less on receives jueteng payola, but admits receiving reports on the presence of jueteng bet collectors in far-flung barangays.

His denial came on the heels of the alleged admission of Vice Mayor Berex Abalos that he and other officials are receiving payola from the illegal numbers game as reported in a local radio.

In denying that he is a beneficiary of jueteng payola, Romero said he has a standing order to Police Chief  Segundino Adaliga for him to conduct intensive operations against all forms of illegal activities, particularly  jueteng, in line with the directive of Police Director General Arturo Lomibao.

Lomibao is from Mangaldan.

He said he issued the order due to information reaching him that there are people going around collecting jueteng bets in some areas, especially in far-flung barangays.

“My order stands that is why my townmates can not say that I am tolerating illegal gambling activities in my town,” he said.

But he stressed that the police also need the help of the people by way of reporting to his office or to the police any jueteng collector roaming around their communities so prompt action can be taken.

Romero reiterated that he does not receive any single centavo as payola from jueteng operators and denied knowing anyone of the jueteng operators.- APE
