NL educators laud Lomibao, Esperon

DAGUPAN CITY –Dagupan City – Two of the country’s top police and army generals were commended by some 450 private schools, colleges and universities in Region I for their active participation in quelling a power grab attempt by a group of disgruntled military officers at the height of the People Power celebration recently.

 

Honored were two Pangasinense generals, namely, Philippine National Police Director General Arturo C. Lomibao and Army chief Lt. Gen. Army chief Hermogenes Esperon.

 

Meeting at the University of Luzon conference hall, the  Association of Private Schools, Colleges and Universities (APSCU) in Region I headed by UL president Dr. MacArthur Samson, president, passed a resolution congratulating the two generals “for their patriotism, military acumen, exemplary leadership and loyalty to the Constitution and  the government.”

 

Lyceum  Northwestern University   President  Dr. Gonzalo Duque said  the “people should not  overlook the heroism of   Generals Lomibao and Esperon and all the  fine military officers  who stood by the constitution and rule of law and  effectively checked  the dangerous adventurism of a few misguided military officers.”

 

Duque, president of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) and education consultant at Speaker de Venecia’s office, said “Generals Lomibao and Esperon do us proud; they deserve our grand salute.”

 

General Lomibao hails from Mangaldan town, while General Esperon was born in Asingan.

 

APSCU president Samson said “the academe stands committed to unfettered academic freedom and democracy, but we have our duty to the republic, as we believe in constitutional rule.”

 

Samson added: “We oppose any attempt by misguided elements to make a mockery of the constitution in the guise of exercising free assembly and free speech.” – JV
