DepEd orders simple graduation rites

By March 12, 2006Inside News, News

THE regional office of the Department of Education has issued an order discouraging expensive graduation exercises in all public schools.

Teachers were given copies of DepEd Order No. 6, series of 2005 which directed all school administrators, principals and classroom teachers not to collect contributions to be used for the graduation rites.

The DepEd order also prohibits extravagant attire or holding graduation ceremonies in hotels.

Moreover, no non-academic projects would be imposed on graduating students as a requirement for graduation.

It also stressed that the publication of a year book must be voluntary in nature.

The DepEd said, however, that cash collections by the Parents-Teachers Associations and or Parents-Teachers-Community Associations may be authorized provided that the same had passed through a meeting and approved by their respective Board of Directors. – APE
