JAPANESE government-owned corporation Tokushima Auction Market (TAM) President Yoshihisa Arai and Pangasinan Governor Amado I. Espino III signed on July 29 the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the USD 1 Billion agri-project to be established in Pangasinan.

The MOU signing for the development of Aqua Farming Industry recognizes the importance of aqua farming as a socially acceptable, economically viable, and environmentally-sustainable mechanism of food production in the province.

Prior to the MOU signing, TAM through its corporate arm, Global Trade Venture Company, presented earlier this month to Gov. Espino the proposal for the Pangasinan Fish Farming (PFF) project.

A USD 1 Billion project, the PFF project aims to grow and harvest a variety of fishes such in Pangasinan waters where over 1,000 local fisher folks will be trained and employed.

Through the PFF-Project, floating cages, office buildings, artificial intelligence center, dormitories, communication and data base center, feed warehouse, fish processing plants, cold storage, solid and wastewater treatment facility, medical center and land development will be built and established in Pangasinan to improve the aqua farming industry and generate more job and livelihood opportunities in the province.

Pangasinan is one of the largest provinces in the Philippines that is abundant in the agricultural sector. Pangasinan is now known as “agricultural powerhouse of the country.”

In his message, Governor Espino thanked the Tokushima Auction Market for choosing Pangasinan as one of the investment areas for their various food-production programs.

“On behalf of the Province of Pangasinan, I would like to thank all of our partners for choosing our province for this momentous endeavor,” said Governor Espino.

Governor Espino also expressed his full support to the endeavors of the TAM in developing the aqua farming industry in Pangasinan.

“We hope that the signing of the MOU is a sign of our long and productive partnership with Tokushima Auction Market and the country of Japan that will greatly benefit the people of Pangasinan,” Governor Espino said.

Joining the online MOU were Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko, Nobuhiro Miura of the House of Councilors, Japan Medicinal Association Chairman Kazuo Sato, and some LGU executives in Philippines who also signed their respective MOUs with TAM.

The MOU signing at the Provincial Capitol Conference Room was also attended by: Provincial Administrator Nimrod S. Camba, Ret. Col. Mariano Luis “Sonny” Verzosa (consultant to the governor), Provincial Legal Officer Geraldine U. Baniqued, Provincial Information Officer Orpheus M.
